A little girl who’s fallen down a well. A mother swept out to sea. A farmer’s daughter sold to a travelling circus. A German U-Boot in Chaleur Bay, awaiting a daring POW escape...

Following in the storytelling tradition of bestselling author Eric Dupont, Annie-Claude Thériault’s sweeping family saga takes the reader from New Brunswick and Berlin, New Hampshire, to occupied Paris and beyond, featuring a cast of larger-than-life characters and a whole series of incidents, each more memorable than the last. The German is question is a gruff, mysterious character by the name of Alfred Waldemar von Janowski. The story begins with his wedding in Forks, a tiny hamlet in New Brunswick, Canada, and follows the trials and tribulations of Janowski and his daughters throughout much of the 20th century.
