Mathieu Poulin’s first novel, Des explosions (On Explosions), is a pseudo-biography deconstructing the life and career of filmmaker Michael Bay, an esteemed intellectual who has tackled so many profound social and philosophical issues through his now-classic action films, from the discourse of decolonization in "Bad Boys" to the interface of astrophysics and metaphysics in "Armageddon". Deep thinking and car chases have never gone so well together.

Reviews

  • With On Explosions, reality as we know it has been turned on its head; the book is a collection of scenes so believable they must be drawn from the annals of film history. Never imagined Michael Bay and luminary producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer jointly reciting Aimé Césaire’s Cahier d’un retour au pays natal? Now you can. - Nathan Murray, Impact Campus Link to review
